Cross Processing: Fujichrome Astia 100

I get a lot of questions about cross processing, and personally I have seen extremely different effects from cross processed Fuji Astia, so I wanted to try it out and share my results. These were shot with a Smena Symbol, I Sunny 16-ed since it doesn’t have a light meter.

At first glance my negatives were green. Super green. Which means the photos are RED. Like UBER red. Here’s a naked scan, with no change to the scanner settings:

[This is Notre Dame]

This is really, really too red and purple for my taste…so here’s what it looks like with color correction (no fancy photoshop, just color correction):

Personally, I prefer the second one, but compared to the density of my negatives this looked really dark. So I tried scanning with medium fading correction:

This looks a little bit more like the exposure of my negative. But still, I can’t deal with the red/purple. So here’s this one with color correction:

Ahhh much better. I like this with the color correction, however I think I will probably stick to cross processing Provia…
