i’ve just been looking at some of your Holga photos…and this question has been bugging me for a while.. a) what is expired film exactly? I didn’t realise it went out of date, b) why use it? c) where can i get some for my 35mm? :P

Film always has a date printed on the package (the box for 35mm, the foil wrapper for 120) and you know it’s expired when it’s past that date. Some expired film gives crazy colors and cool effects, but it’s really a guessing game where you never know what you’re going to get. You can check on eBay for expired film, or any of the places on the Links and Resources page.

Is it okay to use expired colored film? Do you know if it creates a cool effect?

It depends on how expired it is… and even then it’s really a guessing game. I’ve used rolls of film that have been expired for over 10 years, and some have crazy color and some look normal.
