Sunday Ebay Deals: 35mm SLRs

It’s Sunday…. which means it’s time again for the best film camera deals on Ebay!  On a side note, let me just say one thing: If you don’t like Russian cameras, I am sorry, but I do and I will always feature them so perhaps you should go find your own Ebay deals instead of sending me nasty messages about how much you hate Russian cameras. You know who you are.

Moving on, a big thanks to Thomas Foolery (enneagon) for sharing a super Ebay find: Ebay seller Luca9774 has quite an array of manual film cameras to choose from, with many under a hundred Euros and reliable brands like Olympus, Yashica, and Pentax as well as fun discontinued brand like Petri, Chinon, and Rioch. There is still at least 1 day on every item in his store: http://tinyurl.com/2dpvhhv

  • Zenit 12XP: starting bid $8.25, ends in 6 days, comes with what appears to be a 44mm Helios lens, instruction manual, and case. At less than 10 bucks, it’s hard to go wrong… and we all know I love, love, love Russian cameras http://tinyurl.com/2cvxmzj
  • Canon A-1(KIT): minimum bid 1 cent (yes really), ends in 6 days, comes with 35-70mm, 80-200mm, and 52mm lenses, Canon flash head, cable release, filters, and other good stuff http://tinyurl.com/2uz2cqe
  • Asahi Pentax K-1000: minimum bid 1 cent (yay again!), ends in 6 days, comes with 50mm lens (no international shipping :( ) http://tinyurl.com/35zprec
  • Praktica LLC: minimum bid $59.99 or buy it now for $89.99, ends in 4 days, comes with what looks like a 50mm lens. I had a Praktica (got it at a flea market) and it worked great, so much so that I gave it to my niece for a film photography class she was taking… and I think since then she may have lost it [sigh] http://tinyurl.com/33otuey

I have a suggestion for your eBay deals section. The user is luca9774, I bought a Minolta Hi-matic 7s from him a few months ago and it's perfect. I think he must restore old film cameras, mine looked like new and from the looks of his listings so does everything else. He's very cooperative and although he's based in Bologna, Italy, I had no trouble negotiating things in English. I hope this is helpful in some way.

Cool! I will definitely check it out :)

It’s Sunday, and you know what that means. Bust out those wallets and stop me from buying more cameras. So our first ebay deal is not at all an ebay deal, but a fellow Tumblr who offers a marketplace for cameras. If you’re not following LAMLUX, you should be: lamlux.net - Marketplace

Sunday Ebay Film Camera Deals: Now with Medium Format Goodness

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for Ebay film camera deals! If you asked me a question along the lines of, “What’s a good film camera for a beginner?” then the 35mm manual SLR section would be for you. I have also included some super-fabulous deals on medium format cameras for those of you who are thinking about taking it to the next level.

I must say that while doing the Ebay Deals is fun, and gets people buying cameras, it is not at all helping my camera addiction. If my life was New Jack City, I would be Pookie and Russian cameras would be my crack; I’d slide the aperture back and forth while twitching and talking to myself about optics and focal length… (And if you don’t know what New Jack City is, get on your movie research now and shame on you.) So me doing Ebay deals is EXACTLY LIKE WHEN POOKIE GOES TO WORK IN A CRACK HOUSE.

But alas, I digress… so on to the matter at hand, which would be cameras YAY!

35mm manual SLRs (good for beginners):

  • Yashica Electro AX: buy it now for $25, comes with an unidentified lens but looks like a standard 50mm, circa 1973 http://tinyurl.com/2adqnwm
  • Yashica Electro: minimum bid $19.95, ends in 3 days, comes with 1 lens and Vivtar flash, light meter NOT working http://tinyurl.com/268wdbo
  • Minolta X-9 (KIT): current bid $19, ends in 7 hours comes with 35-75mm and 80-200mm lenses, motorized bottom, and flashhttp://tinyurl.com/252e2lz
  • Nikon FM2 (black): yup, the black version of my dearest baby, current bid $51, ends in 15 hours, comes with 35-70mm Nikkor lens http://tinyurl.com/2vs92ow

Medium Format:

  • Kiev 6C (120 SLR): current bid $75, comes with 90mm 2.8 lens; this is a medium format SLR and shoots 6x6… I also might buy it if no one else does because I am addicted to Russian cameras!! Ends in 15 hours, so jump on it http://tinyurl.com/2v5rmmj
  • Pentacon Praktisix: minimum bid $45, ends in 5 days, comes with 80mm 3.5 Primotar E lens; this is a relatively rare East German made medium format SLR circa late 1950’s and it’s beautiful. I have to stop wanting to buy the Sunday Ebay Deals!!! Someone else please buy it, stop me, please http://tinyurl.com/3959x33
  • Kiev 60 (TTL): buy it now for $165, this one’s a bit of a splurge but it’s Russian and NEW and this dealer has more than 10 available (which means if you guys buy them it still won’t stop me from buying one [sigh] I have a problem), comes with Arsat 80mm 2.8 lens and other goodies like a manual and batteries. Anyone looking for a solid medium format camera, this one is money http://tinyurl.com/2fxeydj
  • Fujica G-690 (120 and 220): current bid $79.88, ends in 1 day 17 hours, comes with 100mm 3.5 lens, camera + lens have serial numbers, medium format and takes 120 and 220 film http://tinyurl.com/3ygbmbw

and PS: for those of you old enough - you know you totally forgot Mario Van Peebles ever even existed until I just dropped a flashback bomb on your ass

    Sunday Ebay Film Camera Deals

Yay it’s time for Sunday Ebay Deals! Since a lot of you inquired about my grandfather’s Mamiya Sekor 1000DTL, I decided to do a Mamiya special this week. I’ve included several different models that are similar to the one that I use, plus I found another 1000DTL for anyone who wants the exact model.

For those of you not sure how to choose cameras on Ebay, this is my personal checklist:

    1. Is it fully manual? If yes, that’s a go.
    2. Is the lens fully manual? If yes, that’s a go.
    3. Does the shutter work? If yes, that’s go.
    4. Does the seller specifically mention any problems or light leaks? If yes, that’s a no-go.
    5. Does the seller use the term “AS-IS?” If yes, that’s a definite no-go.

and last but not least, READ THE DESCRIPTION. Minor things like dings and scratches do not matter and will not effect your image quality. Also, if they talk about “not testing with batteries” this refers only to the light meter. If the light meter doesn’t work, that does not effect image quality either.

    On to this weeks finds:

    ebay.com

    • Minolta X-7000: buy it now, $87.99, comes with 80-200mm macro lens and motorized bottom, ends in 5 days http://tinyurl.com/ya7c9bl
    • Mamiya Sekor 528TL: minimum bid $12.99, comes with 48mm 2.8 lens and original case, no lens cap but this is a great camera to find for under $20 so who cares, ends in 6 days http://tinyurl.com/y6n6cmp
    • Mamiya Sekor 1000DTL: minimum bid $9.99, comes with 35mm Vivitar lens and flash, ends in 1 day; this is the exact body that I permanently borrowed from my grandfather http://tinyurl.com/y78c84n
    • Mamiya Sekor 500DTL: buy it now, $51.59, comes with 50mm 1.8 Portacon lens and 135mm Hanimex lens, camera case and carrying bag, copy of manual, ends in 24 dayshttp://tinyurl.com/y4osvjk

*note: I will not be doing Ebay finds from ebay.fr (France) because the website literally makes no sense. Sorry Frenchies, but I’ve technically told all of you to hit the Troc et Puces in Torcy, which is where I get 90% of my goods. Plus, in my experience many ebay dealers will ship to France if you specifically contact them, ask nicely, and assure them that you have no problem paying for the shipping and customs charges.

Ebay.co.uk (I have to say a couple of things about the UK site… First off, I feel like UK ebay camera sellers do not have an accurate concept of the current prices of film cameras. As much as it makes me sick to my stomach to see a Nikon SLR body for sale under $500, that is where the market is. Second, there are a lot of Prakticas. Did someone in the UK like raid a German camera stock house and end up with all of the Prakticas? Prakticas are great cameras, but not so great to do an entire ebay deal section on them, so here are 2 nice ones I found):

    • Praktica L2: buy it now for 99 pounds or best offer, comes with 50mm 2.8 lens (the lens is automatic but the body isn’t so it’s acceptable) http://tinyurl.com/y3yybfv

Sunday Ebay Deals: Film Cameras and Expired Film

It’s Sunday again…. which means it’s time for Sunday Ebay Deals yay (and uh oh I hope I don’t buy any of the cameras I post this week). For those of you who haven’t notices, I only post fully manual cameras because I am old school like that.

I thought it would be a good idea to include some film deals this week, since I’ve gotten quite a few questions about buying film on Ebay. I even found some good Polaroid film deals for those of you desperately searching.

    Here we go:

    35mm SLRs:

    • Rolleiflex SL35: current bid 42 pounds, ends in 10 hours, comes with 50mm 1.8 lens. This camera is effing beautiful. http://tinyurl.com/yb66guh
    • Minolta X-370 KIT: current bid $36.50, ends in 10 hours, comes with 80-200mm lens, 28mm wide angle lens, 50mm lens, leather case, UV lens filter, lens hood http://tinyurl.com/yave9ly

    Film:

    • 50 Sheets Kodak Ektachrome: current bid $12.50, 64T, expired 2006 but refrigerated, 4x5 format, ends in 6 hours. 4x5 film is super expensive… part of me wants to bid on this http://tinyurl.com/ybbpukl
    • Polaroid Type 668 Land Film Pack: current bid $16.95, double pack (16 shots), EXPIRED 1987, ends in 1 day, 17 hours. This film is super old and super rare, it could have the coolest expired polaroid effects ever or it could be totally black. Someone should risk it http://tinyurl.com/y99d5tl

PS: If you have bought one of the cameras listed in my past Ebay deals, it would be the coolest thing ever if you photo-reply with a picture of it :)

Sunday Ebay Film Camera Deals: International Edition

It’s Sunday. I may be in the United States, but this week I am not forgetting Sunday’s ebay deals, especially since so many people asked me about 35mm SLR cameras. Also, as per special request, I’ll be checking out what’s available in the UK in France for those of you Europeans who benefit from socialized health care like me. So, without further ado, this week’s best finds:

    Ebay.com:

    Ebay.fr:

Monday Ebay SLR Film Camera Deals (so sorry I’m late)

I was super busy and totally forgot to do last night’s camera deals (thanks laviebelem for reminding me) so while I wait for the stupid France Telecom guy to come to my apartment at some point between 9am and 7pm, I am scouring E-Bay to see what’s out there. Here’s what I’ve found:

    • Zenit 11: (rangefinder) buy it now, $45, ends in 29 days. Ooooh I love Russian cameras… if this one is still here tomorrow, I might buy it… http://tinyurl.com/yj23umu
    • Minolta X-370 KIT: minimum bid $39.99, ends in 6 days, comes with 3 lenses, camera bad, remote shutter release, and 6 rolls of film. US ONLY
      http://tinyurl.com/ykvkx6t
    • Canon EX EE: minimum bid $9.99, ends in 6 days, comes with 50mm 1.8 lens, flash, camera bag, and 1 roll of film http://tinyurl.com/yekvsmn
    • Zenit ET: $29.99 buy it now, ends in 28 days, another Russian beauty… I secretly want to buy this one too http://tinyurl.com/ycqrcl8
