I’ve seen the same posts, I think it’s a mock-up and isn’t actually being produced. I’ve also seen plenty of hacks to attach a Holga lens to a DSLR… so you could always try something like that. However, I have always loved the Holga for two reasons:
1. Sometimes you need to just get out and shoot. No light metering, no depth of field, no framing, no focusing. Just shoot. It’s like taking a mental photography nap and often helps stimulate creativity when you pick up your SLR again.
2. The allure of the Holga is the entire plastic package; it’s not just the plastic lens, but the way the plastic body with it’s crappy light leaks and moody spool tension effect the film. In fact, I actually prefer my Woca, which has a glass lens and a plastic body - so it tends to give clearer photos with all of the yummy Holga effects.
On another note, if you have a look at the Links/Resources page, I’ve listed quite a few places to buy cheap film. You can also check eBay for very recently expired film which is basically like using fresh - on the same note you can also ask photo shops and labs if they have any recently expired film that they would like to sell discounted. You’d be surprised what you can get. For example, there is a one hour photo lab up the street and I asked if by chance they had any 120 film even though there wasn’t any out. The owner told me that actually he had quite a bit of recently expired (2009) 120 film and offered it to me at 3 euros a roll. I bought one, got it processed, and everything looked fine so I went back and negotiated each pack of 5 for 15 euros, which is a total steal. I find that loyalty to photo shops and labs gets you a looooooong way with discounts and free stuff :)
