The NYC Department of Records announced the release of 870,000 photos which have never been seen before, now available for public viewing online. The photos date as far back as the mid-1880’s, and chronicle everything from guns and gangs to buildings and construction. Speaking from personal experience, I highly recommend that you wait to click this link until you have several hours free in your schedule… because this photo gallery is basically a black hole of amazing.

Do you know of any good places to buy film or cameras around the New York area?

I would hit K&M Camera first (on E 21st) they have the lowest “student” prices and still stock everything darkroom… if they don’t have what you’re looking for, try B&H. Although, it’s been 6 years since I lived in NY so it’s entirely possible (and likely) that there is another film photography resource in the city.

::: Print Space ::: Darkroom and Digital Rental in NYC :::

For those of you looking for film developing and darkroom solutions in New York City, meet Print Space. Technically, Print Space is a darkroom/digital post processing rental facility (color darkroom rental $14.50 per hour, black and white $20 per hour) but they also do dip and dunk C-41 developing for $4.50 a roll, 120 or 35mm. Let me translate that: they do professional C-41 developing for not a lot of money.

Seriously, you’ll never have a streak or a spot (you may retire your Pec 12) with dip and dunk developing… and at $4.50 a roll, it’s definitely more affordable than most professional labs.
